Looking back at more than twenty years of professional experience, Michael is an Attorney at Law with the High Courts and Courts of Appeal of the Federal Republic of Germany, admitted to the German Bar and a qualified Judge since early 2000. He has worked in private practice in Germany for law firms such as KPMG Legal and EY Law in the fields of Corporate Law, Commercial Law, M&A and Litigation.
Michael is specialized in international Aviation Law, holds an MBA in Aviation Management from Coventry University (UK) and the IATA Diploma in International Air Law. For more than a decade he dedicated his skills to Emirates Airline & Group (ten years) in Dubai, UAE (www.theemiratesgroup.com) where he was employed as Legal Counsel, to Cargolux Airlines International S.A. (Luxembourg) where he held the position of General Counsel and Company Secretary, and most recently to Gulf Air (Kingdom of Bahrain) as General Counsel, leading a team of fourteen professionals. During his career Michael focused on International (Aviation) Law and Regulations, European (Aviation) Law, International Commercial Law and Litigation as well as Contract Law in both - the Common Law legal system (UK) and the Civil Law based legal system (Continental Europe). He also advised the Government of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates on the revision of international treaties such as the Convention on Damage Caused by Foreign Aircraft to Third Parties on the Surface, signed at Rome, on 7 October 1952 (Rome Convention 1952) and most recently the Convention on Offences Committed on Board Aircraft, signed at Tokyo, 14 September 1963 (Tokyo Convention 1963). Upon the request of the government of Dubai, Michael also had the unique experience of being part of the team that set up and creating the concept for a low-cost airline (www.flydubai.com).
Michael offers training to Civil Aviation Authorities, Airlines and other aviation related institutions on International Aviation Law, (Airline) Contract Law, Airline Competition and Antitrust Law, Data Protection and Passenger Rights, Deregulation, Alliances, Equity Partnerships & Frequent Flyer Programs.
He is also an External Instructor for the International Air Transport Association (IATA) with its business seats in Montreal, Canada and Geneva, Switzerland and Assistant Professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University providing training on the same subjects to other aviation professionals across the globe. Just recently, Michael has also been appointed to teach International Air Law at the University of Geneva as part of its MBA Aviation Management program in cooperation with IATA.
